Good Dog

Seeing the photo of Maizy with Riley made me reminisce what a good dog Riley really is. I mean seriously, how many dogs would endure this time after time. Here is Riley with baby Alexis:
And 2 1/2 years later with baby Maxwell:
And 2 years later again with Maizy:
Thank you Riley for being the best dog a family could ask for.

Things You Should Never Have to Say

This whole 3rd trimester of pregnancy really has not been good for the blogging experience. Hopefully, once I have an infant, I'll be able to blog more often while I'm awake at 3am. Anyway....

I noticed while I was driving today that I have said so many things in the course of the morning that should never have to be said. But when you have a 4 year old and a 2 year old, for some reason, all of these things came out of my mouth this morning:

"Stop licking your feet"
"If you throw another shoe at my head while I'm driving, we will be pulling over"
"Can you stop letting Riley lick your pancake"
"Please get your hand out of there"
"Do not jump on his head"
"Stop playing tug-a-war with Riley" - picture Riley as the rope
"Riley is not a bicycle"
"No you cannot have another vitamin"
"I know that tastes gross, you just put hand sanitizer on your hands"
"You cannot do a flip right there"

I wonder if I should keep a diary of all the ridiculous things you say that you never imagined yourself saying prior to children. That could make a good book one day.

A Day in Our Life

Thursday was a beautiful day in which many blog-worthy things happened. After waking up early, we had to take Riley to the vet for her yearly checkup (which by the way, was supposed to be in May). But, I figure, if we are still in the same year, it still counts as yearly. So the four of us trek out of the house up to the vet. We arrive on time and quite promptly are shown to our room. BUT, 15 unnecessary minutes tick by before anyone comes into the room when clearly we were the only ones there since ALL the other rooms were empty. Picture Alexis and Max fighting over who gets to hold Riley's leash, Max opening cabinets all over the place, and Alexis chasing around Claw and Beep, her imaginary friends, because they were not being good listeners. Clearly, Alexis was winning the fight of who got the hold the leash for the above photo! Finally, the nurse came in, took Riley for her bloodwork, nail cutting, and whatever else in the back. Still trying to entertain two children in a little four by four EMPTY room, and 15 minutes later Riley comes back. "Ok" says the nurse, "now I'll let the vet know that Riley is ready to be examined". Fabulous! Almost done! 30 FREAKIN' MINUTES LATER, the vet comes in. By now, Alexis has come up with a thousand different scenarios about why Claw and Beep are flying around the room on scooters/going to school inside the treat dish/doing her hair for a party, etc., Max has torn apart the only magazine in the room while whining and crying because he is probably as bored as I am, and I'm about to climb up the walls. I explain to the vet that Riley has been peeing in her sleep and last time that happened she had a bladder infection. "Well, let's get a urine sample from her", she says. Ok, great. 15 minutes later, Riley comes back. "Ok, now we have to wait for the vet to analyze the sample", the nurse says. We waited about 15 more minutes, and now everyone is hungry, Max is tired, and I am just plain annoyed. I was just about to go out the other door and say we are just going to leave and have to come back for round two, when the vet came in and said that her urine was too watery to examine so we have to CATCH HER FIRST PEE OF THE MORNING IN A TUPPERWARE and bring it in. Are you kidding me????? Ummmm.....that's going to be Ben's job. Finally, after 1 1/2 hours and $228, we leave the vet.

For the second, third, and fourth blog-worthy things of the day.....

Ha! The suspense will kill you, I know!!!!

This Last Week's Events

There has been no post this week because we had been staying at my mom's house since Tuesday and got home last night. She went to New Jersey so we were staying with her dog and her computer is a total waste of energy and should be thrown out the window (but that is a whole 'nother story) so I didn't even attempt a post. Besides babysitting Elmo, the 80 pound black lab, it also helped that I was there to be at the house while all the insurance adjusters came seeing as my mom's car was driven through the house (the piece of house that is in between the garage doors). Unfortunately, it wasn't my mom that did it (and no, it wasn't me either)!! I will not mention her name as I think she feels bad enough already without the blog world knowing about it too. (And as another side note, my only picture was on my cell phone, so maybe I'll have one to add to this post later). Either way, the guy came to estimate the damage to the house and a different guy came to estimate the car. In addition, the garage door people and the stucco people. The whole point of my story though is that I really hate when workers come to the house and I have to let them inside when I am alone. But at my mom's house I NEVER have to worry about it.....thanks to her dog. Really, Elmo is just the sweetest dog ever, but he DESPISES workers of any kind. So of course I have to put him in the basement when they come because we don't want any law suits on our hands, but really just hearing his bark is totally enough to scare the living crap out of all of them. Even when Elmo is in the basement and barking, it is still loud enough to make them think he is somewhere close by with chompers just waiting to sink into something juicy!!!! But, really, I promise, he is a sweet dog! See, look at that sweet face!!! Riley, on the other hand, is the official "let me lick your face off, and snuggle up to your leg, welcoming committee" to any person that walks up to our door. A watchdog, she isn't. But she does allow Max to pull her ears, step on her tail, and bash his sippy cup on her head without even a flinch. I think she secretly enjoys it because it is attention that she has severely been lacking these last 3 1/2 years. But, man, did she have the life before Alexis was born. She has really aged in the last few years too. I guess kids do that to everyone....even the dog. I mean she is only 6, but look at these pictures of her.....one from 2005 and one from 2009 and check out her graying hair (I guess she really is a child of Ben's!).
